In 1992, I had just graduated from college. I earned my degree at Northern Michigan University in Marquette Michigan. We moved back to my hometown of Calumet, Michigan. Talking with my brother-in-law, he asked me to join him and his brothers to hunt deer. We’d stay at a camp in Lac La Belle. I accepted the invite and also knew that they were dedicated hunters. They would scout different areas in Keweenaw County in the fall to find a good place to hunt. Visual signs such as scrapes, rubs on trees, tracks, food sources, and the like were observed. An area was picked, and they each decided where they would hunt. Topographical maps were studied. This was done so that they wouldn’t be too close to each other and cover a larger area. When I entered the picture, I was made aware of where each person would be and then I would stay on the outer perimeter out of respect for their efforts of scouting this area.
